Tools & Techniques
Any Study Bible. Recommended Bible: Amplified. NKJV Bible
Recommended Apps: Blue Letter Bible, Bible Gateway
The inductive method is an investigative way of studying Scripture.
When applied properly, the inductive method will provide a better overall understanding of a passage—what it says, what it meant to its original audience, and what it means today.
Anyone can use the inductive method by following three simple steps:
1. Observation: Observe the facts in the passage. Ask yourself the 5 W’s and H:
Who?
What?
Where?
When?
Why?
How?
As you do, make note of:
Words repeated multiple times in a passage
Words that indicate a change in topic or time
Words that contrast one thing against another
Words that indicate cause and effect
2. Interpretation:
What is the theme of the passage?
What is the key verse or key words?
Use cross references to see where the same key words have been used in other chapters of the Bible
Use Interlinear/concordance to find the root meaning and origin of the word
3. Application
What is God's message to you?
